Knitting in the Loop is dedicated to helping members of ourcommunity and others throughout the world. We will work with any group that wishes to come to the shop and knit together. We will keep a basket of free yarn for your use in creating special projects.
GREETINGS from Knitting in the Loop and welcome to Houston's newest, most eclectic knitting store. Whether you are an accomplished knitter, still half way through the first project you started with your Grandmother, or have just thought about learning this rewarding skill, Knitting in the Loop is the place for you.
I am a novice knitter with one completed project out of my knitting bag, but I knew a successful shop had three major requirements. First it would require talented, skilled, and kind teachers; with the closing of Mary Charles Yarn Company 4 perfect ladies were available. From personal experience I know our teachers - Rose, Karen, Sharon, and Virginia - can turn anyone into a successful knitter and/or crotchetier. Plus you will feel so good about yourself every step of the way. Read about them here. If you have a problem with a project, come by and get a "quick fix" or sign up for a class. Also check out the class calendar and descriptions. We are always open to suggestions for classes.
Second, the shop would have to offer fabulous materials and supplies. Knowing almost nothing about yarn and knitting equipment, I relied heavily on the experienced 4. We spent hours with yarn reps in Houston and then Rose and I went to Market in San Diego. Our wall of yarn is fabulous! We have yarn from all over the world and all sorts of animals. Myriad colors and fibers allow you to create anything from baby cloths to formal wear and everything in between. There are patterns for American Girl dolls and Barbie as well as sophisticated knits for adult dress up. From bracelets to purses to bed blankets to lingerie to fabulous clothes for every age, you can adorn the people you love. Since my grandchildren are 8, 6, & 1 expect lots of non Brittany Spears creations for those age groups. Louisa Harding, an internationally recognized designer, is bringing a trunk show for our opening. She has a pre-teen daughter and has designed some beautiful, wearable clothes for this age group.
Finally, it would have to be in a great location and a place you want to visit. When the Yellow House on Bammel Lane became available, I knew Knitting in the Loop was meant to be. Sit & Knit is not a class, just a designated time to come and knit with others. We will provide lunch for the Grandmother/Mother/Daughter classes; there are no age, skill, or relationship requirements. Local artists will have things for sale through out the store and shows at various times. We will have pottery from Ann Wheat Pace, jewelry from Carolyn Wittenbraker & Vicki Bartholow of Petits Bijoux in Dallas, and as many people as we can feature. 20% of our opening week-end sales will benefit the Nehemiah Center. To learn more about this group visit www.nehemiah1.org. We hope to have a long term relationship with this wonderful organization. We will help you support any charitable organization. If you have a group that wants to knit prayer shawls for the ill, blankets and hats for babies, afghans for needy people, something for our soldiers, whatever you like we will work with you and your group. You can knit here once a week or once a month. We will keep a basket of free yarn.
I hope to see you soon.
